There is one city in Germany that will always be famous, one that is rich in history, culture and entertainment. This is a must see city for any German traveler at least once in their lifetime. The great city I’m referring to is of course Berlin.

Berlin has recently been seen in the top 10 travel magazines as one of the most popular destinations for travelers and expats alike. It is the center of European history politics sports and science. It has many attractions including museums, palaces, historic sites, cafes, clubs, bars, and vibrant nightlife. There is always something happening and always someplace to go. However, here are the top 10 reasons to visit this city.

1. Reichstag

Reichstag is one of the most famous locations in all of Germany and tops our list. This has been an edifice for travelers the world over to come to Berlin. With its magnificent edifice and towering glass dome, it is a triumph in modern architecture. This has been the major seat for Germany’s political parliament since the late 1990’s. It is currently located near the Brandenburg Gates building. Here, is a tip, sneak into the west side entrance and go to the on grounds restaurant Dachgarten you will be pleasantly surprised.

2. Berliner Funkturm

This is one of the largest radio towers in the world. It is very interesting to see this spectacle. It stands approximately 150 meters into the air and has an open air observation deck about 3 quarters of the way up. It is a transmitting tower but give you one picturesque view of Berlin that you can see nowhere else in the city. So this is a must see to place for the bird’s eye view of one of Europe’s greatest cities.

3.Fernsehturm

This landmark is famous in Germany; it stands about 400 meters high. It was built in the late 1960s as a tribute to the unity. This tower is one of the status symbols of Berlin, and you can see it from almost every part of the city. The tower location is close to Alexander and is part of the original German Democratic party image. However, this tower now stands for democracy for all people and a reminder of what fascism will really do to a country.

4. Siegessäule

This is a wonderful, historic monument in the city of Berlin. It stands about 60 meters tall and gives you a wonderful panoramic view of the very center of the city. It was original designed by a German architect by the name of Heinrich Strack in the late 1800s. It celebrates the original Prussian victory of the Danish –Prussian war. It has a grand statue of Victoria and red granite base with a colossal hall of pillars which the column stands upon

5. Berlin Wall

Of course, no visit to Berlin is complete without taking home your very own piece of history. There Berlin wall fell in the early 90s and parts of it are still intact. It is the longest portion still intact and contains a gallery of the walls history. It is an international memorial for freedom. On the opposite side of the wall, you will see hundreds of different paintings symbolizing freedom at last from painters all over the world.

6. Holocaust Memorial

This is not a location for everyone, but it is for those who do not want the world to forget the atrocities that the German people committed against the Jewish population of the time. It is a well-known and famous site in Germany. There are vast, abstract artworks covering the entire block near the Brandenburg gate. Including a underground museum that narrates the terrifying tales of the Holocaust. It is a complete maze of nowhere to go and sometimes you get the feeling of being watched as you go through the small labyrinth that is there.

7. Berlin Zoo

For those travelers searching for some great entertainment value. One of the best places is the Berlin Zoo. It is located near the railway station in the center of the city. It is the largest zoon in Germany featuring the largest botanical gardens and the largest number of different animal species on display in the entire western hemisphere. First opening in Germany in 1844 it is also one of the oldest zoos still in existence. The zoo boasts approximately 14,000 animals from 1500 species, and a marvelous Aquarium.

8. Tierpark Berlin

Besides the Berlin zoo, there is another founded in Berlin a little more modern, but just as awesome. The reason I have to mention two zoos in this list is because this zoo the Tierpark zoo has a unique field and it contains some of the rarest species on earth. It is located near the Friedrichsfelds on the former opulent palace grounds. However, since they specialize in rare and exotic animals, you will see species never really seen in any other zoo around the world. A must for any visit to Berlin.

9. Berlin Museums

I had a harder time choosing a museum, but it seems that no matter which one I went to there is always something special to say about them. So my advice would be to go to as many as you want or choose the ones that have displays on exhibit that may interest you. You can pick up a local procure at any concierge that will give you some insight to the area’s largest museum attractions like. Pergamonmuseum, Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bodemuseum, and Neues Museum for art lovers. As well as Gemäldegalerie, and Neue Nationalgalerie for history and so on.

10. Berlin Churches

I am afraid the same happened here with the churches there are just so many beautiful and opulent churches that you must see in Berlin. All of them have their own unique history and culture. Some of the notable churches of Berlin include - Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, Marienkirche, Nikolaikirche, St. Hedwigs Kathedrale, Berliner Dom, and Friedrichswerdersche Kirche.
