Top 5 Fun Places to Visit in Switzerland

Updated on September 22, 2012

I could not keep myself from doing an additional 5 reasons for visiting Switzerland mainly because I could not limit it to just 5 so here is an additional 5 reason to visit Switzerland. Not only is Switzerland the central hub of Europe it also holds some of the most exotic, traditional, and culturally rich locations in the world.

1. The Swiss Alps

Truly this is god’s country and you will know what I mean when you see it. The rugged terrain than Hannibal had to cross prior to getting into Italy in the early centuries. There are many things to do in the Alps which include hiking, fishing, skiing, nature trails, and much more. You can also horseback ride or just inhale the freshest air in the world from atop Gods Mountains. It is truly a one of a kind place, and no other country shows it like Switzerland. They are spectacular no matter what time of year you choose to visit whether it is during the summer or during the winter. Some of the world’s best ski resorts are located in its majestic peaks. They are a haven for skiers and snowboarders alike. A must one stop shop for your Swiss vacation needs.

2. Rhine Falls:

Beautiful and majestic bodies of water dot the landscapes between the mountains. They have some of the freshest natural springs you will ever taste. The springs are fed on the tall mountain peaks from runoff snow melting during mid-summer. Along with the lakes there are huge waterfalls like Rhine Falls. Rhine Falls is the largest waterfalls in all of Europe at more than one hundred feet high. Take a relaxing picnic with the family along with some great food and dine just underneath them or if it is warm enough go for a spectacular swim you will be in aw your entire trip to these falls.

3. Swiss Food

Of course, talking about picnics with the falls has made me a little hungry for some Swiss food. While, on your trip there, you can experience some of the finest old world cuisine available in all of Europe. For example, the Vaud near the French border, you can treat yourself to a mix of the Swiss and French dishes available. If, you are near the German border you can have your mix of German influenced specialties. However, if you’re in the Geneva historical district then chow down on some of the original old world cuisine available at one of the many fine restaurants available there. Of course, no trip to Switzerland is complete unless you are able to taste there finest products from Swiss bakeries we all know it as Swiss cheese or Swiss chocolate. They have the world’s finest assortment that you can have to your heart’s content. Do not forget to load up your carry on to take some home with you.

4. Shopping

After eating all that chocolate and chess going to need to go somewhere to walk of that poundage that you feel and you will trust me. Some of the local shopping experiences will be worth it all the way. You can borrow some of the Swiss watch manufactures and buy a cheap swatch (if you remember the 80s) you can also browse more expensive décor like Rolex or Timex. However, if you brought your own have a master locksmith tweaks your own watch. You can also look into getting an authentic Swiss army knife or original music boxes made by the nomads of the alps on your journey the possibilities are endless.

5. Museums and Historic Monuments

Of course, we all need a little history lesson on our trip and Switzerland offers some of the best museums from around the world. They have exhibits from the finest paintings of Goth and some of the best artifacts from the heart of Egypt, on display regularly. You can also watch how old time Swiss people by visiting one of the historically protected towns of the Swiss country side. Where people live and work like in the old days. Also, the Swiss transportation museum and the national Swiss museum in Zurich. There are wonderful old castles to explore along with the abbey library of ST fallen. No matter what you decide to do make sure you have a little time to explore these little places along the way they will help make your trip that much more enjoyable.
