Some think it takes an engineering degree or a rocket scientist to make a boat but in reality it is very quiet simple. Doing a simple search on Google for homemade boat plans or just boat plans will net you with hundreds of different types of plans people have built or are in process of building. Some are free some charge for the plans but if you are considering it might be worth the small investment to get quality plans. Boat making is becoming an increasingly popular activity around the world. It is surprisingly simple and practical to make workable boats at home. With good homemade boat plans, it is fairly easy to build your own boat. Many people worry that they have never made a boat before, so it may be something impossible for them. However, the fact is that boat making is a great hobby, and it is not a highly specialized skill that requires special expertise or extensive past experience.
Boats since the beginning of time have been made out of the simplest material that is available. Bamboo, bark from a tree, even a hollowed out log. As long as it was water resistant and floated the natives or explorers made their own. So having quality set of boat plans and no need for any sophisticated equipment or knowledge for one to make it. These plans online are meant for amateurs of course you can go all out with the professionals but we are trying to build our own boat so let’s stick with the facts. If this is your first time in trying to build a boat at home opt for a very simple plan with simplistic boat designs to get the feel for it. In the beginning keep away from compound curves and other advanced specs on a boat. Try to complete it by eye where the saying says if it looks right and floats right then it probably is right.
There is a basic plan that I came across that is perfect for the first time home boat builder it is designed by stitching and gluing. All that it requires is some solid lumber, plywood, and some fiberglass as the basic materials. Using these parts usually only requires that you use a permanent type glue to glue them together once cut to the specifications of the plan you are using. The fiberglass is then just used for the waterproofing of the body of the boat.
If you are a more experienced builder or are looking for a technical challenge to help you build the boat. Then fiberglass may be the way to go to build it full out. It is more expensive this way and will become much heavier quicker but the results are usually better than the wood. Again it really depends on the individual and what they are trying to accomplish. So take your time use the web as your tool and join a boat builders club there are many places that offer advice and assistance in your adventure.
