How to Assemble a Swing Set

Updated on September 21, 2011

There are many different types of swings and swings sets that you can make. The most common one is a hanging seat that is found in children’s playgrounds. The swing has a motion like a pendulum and is often made from metal or wood. The types of seats that swings have can vary widely some use an old tire, a porch swing, toddler swing, or a rope swing. If you have a large back yard and some smaller children installing a swing back there can be one of the best memories of child hood. It is important to know how to build the swing set right. We are going to go through the motions of building a swing set from the materials you are going to need and the right tools you need prior to starting your project.

How to Build a Swing Set

The first step in creating a swing set is to determine what type of swing set that you would like to make. If you don’t wish to make a set from scratch many outlet stores and home stores also have pre made sets that you can purchase. When you purchase the already made metal sets they do have very detailed instructions on how to assemble the pieces correctly.

Looking for the best deal on a swing set or the materials needed to create on the best place I have located is the internet. There is a wide array of swing set manufactures and parts places that you have available to you with a little research can go a long way. The prices for the seat of the swing can range anywhere from 50 dollars to a few hundred dollars. You want the best for the money you have that is durable and safe for your kids. So look for a seat made with high quality materials and look for reviews on it in the forums as well. If you are looking for a complete swing set made with the same high quality materials then you are looking at a higher price tag from anywhere  between 600 and 1200 dollars for the set. Most sets come in many different colors and styles that will easily blend into the décor of your garden or back yard. If you would like to have some additional money then look into purchasing sets made from wood or reinforced plastics.

Before starting your project make sure you have the correct size seat for the location and it is away from any potential obstacles. Clean the area where you would like to place your swing set setup no obstacles tress or bushes should be near the location. Some tools that you will need when you assemble the set you purchased is a screw driver, wrench, vice grips, and the proper Alan wrenches. Using the instructions that came with the swing set you purchased follow the simple a into b formula that it is telling you. Make sure all the blots and screws are in tightly. Some swing sets have multiple connections and you may need more than one person to assemble it. Then once it is together the fun starts so get out your camera and let your children go nuts on the new set. Take pictures of the excitement and wonder of their new found playground in their own back yard and enjoy!
