Registry Fix - How To Repair Windows Registry Files
Having a registry issue in any version of windows can be a troublesome experience. The registry is a central depository of information that stores information on your computers software and hardware programs. Windows sets it up automatically when new things or added or deleted from the computer. Over time, the registry of your computer can become corrupt or non functional due to items being removed or that are left from programs that are no longer installed. Viruses and spyware are common malicious software that likes to wreak havoc on all versions of windows operating system. If, you are having issues with registry errors, slowness, freezing or any other number of computer related issues cleaning and fixing the registry can certainly help resolve a lot of these typical issues.
1st - Backup Your Registry
I know you are excited now to just dive into your registry and start changing everything but before you do let’s perform a quick backup in case something happens it can be restores it back to an original state. The easiest way to perform a registry and system backup is with the system check point option which can be found in all versions of windows from windows ME – windows 7
1. Navigate to the Start Button
2. Locate Help and Support
3. Click Create Restore Point
4. Follow the wizard process through.
*Note: When you name your restore point make it today’s date, so you do not forget it.
2nd - Using the Windows Registry Cleaner
If, you are experienced at cleaning a registry then by all means dive right in, but if you are like most computer users out there you will probably be a little hesitant. I would recommend using a registry cleaning program instead of a manual registry clean unless it is unquestionably necessary. There are a number of free programs out on the market that do a decent job of cleaning the registry for you. One example would be registry mechanic or Ccleaner.
To load up and edit your registry files using the in built Windows registry editor, follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to the Start button
2. Locate Run
3. Type 'regedit' into the Run input box
You can clean the registry manually by using the 3 steps above.
3rd - Final Removal
If, you are following a Microsoft knowledge base article it should be pretty easy to follow the tree to find the key or keys you are looking for. Every registry has a specific purpose so make sure you have a specific purpose in mind before you delete on.
A clean registry will:
•Increase performance and speed.
•Removes unnecessary files and folders.
•Clear corrupted keys entries These can contain malevolent codes that can damage your system.
•Delete all unwanted entries and file paths.
Once you have cleaned it to your satisfaction or have finished following the instructions of an online article you want to make sure to reboot. If, you do not reboot the machine, it will not take the registry keys fully out of its files. Then you should have your old computer running like new again.
